Part of entity’s distributable profits, earnings or reserve given to its shareholders on pro rata basis in cash or other form. The total dividend received by the shareholder usually depends upon the number of shares held.
Dividend paid in cash is called cash dividend whereas dividend paid in the form of bonus shares is called scrip dividend.
